E-DECIDER 2011 Workshop

Earthquake Data Enhanced Cyber-Infrastructure for Disaster Evaluation and Response (E-DECIDER) is a project funded by the NASA Applied Sciences Program with the goal of integrating Earth science data and information for disaster forecasting, mitigation and response, specifically for earthquakes and post-disaster response and recovery.  It will also contribute to providing hazard and disaster information when and where it is needed and recognizing vulnerability of interdependent critical infrastructure.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together professionals in disaster response and emergency management with scientists and remote sensing experts to determine the most useful data products and delivery methods in supporting decision-making and response both pre- and post-earthquake. We will present a timeline of data availability and example data products that we have produced for recent earthquakes (e.g. Haiti; Christchurch; Tohoku, Japan).  Using these demonstrations as a starting point, we will discuss the utility of these products to decision-makers and emergency managers.  We will then discuss post-earthquake information needs in the context of the availability of remote sensing data to develop or improve the information products that E-DECIDER will produce.   The results of the workshop will be written up in a white paper that we will distribute to all participants and use in planning the next phase of the E-DECIDER project.
